How do you feel when you see a commercial on TV talking about saving homeless animals? Maybe it’s the music that makes you tear up – or the sight of a shivering dog or cat in a cage that tugs at your heart. For many pet lovers, these compelling ads are often the catalyst that makes them want to take action.
When you consider the scope of the problem, it’s clear that more compassionate adopters are needed to make a dent in the shocking numbers. Did you know that over 7 million (MILLION!) dogs and cats are euthanized every year, because shelters are just too full? In the United States alone, homeless animals outnumber humans 5 to 1. And only 1 out of 10 dogs born worldwide will ever find its’ forever home.
Adopting a dog or cat from pet rescue organizations and animal shelters does help save these precious lives. If you’ve been on the fence - or just want to find out more about how you can take that first step toward finding an adoptable pet, we have a very helpful suggestion.
Come to one of Ohio Pet Charities’ (OPC) upcoming outdoor events and talk to the experts!

OPC is uniquely positioned to bring together representatives from dozens of Central Ohio rescue groups, Veterinary Care providers, and commercial pet businesses in conveniently located event locations. You’ll be able to speak directly to experts about what it takes to find the right adoptable pet, and where to go to make it happen. Find out about the costs involved, and what you’ll need to provide your selected rescue group or shelter, to show that you’re ready and able to give a deserving dog or cat their forever home.
Our next two events are coming up soon!
Saturday, September 6th – from 9 am to Noon, plan to attend the Dublin Barker’s Market – taking place at Dublin Bridge Park, adjacent to the weekly Dublin Farmer’s Market – on Bridge Park Avenue. Bring your pets along and enjoy the festive open-air market experience.
Sunday, October 5th – from Noon-3:30 pm – join us for Woofs & Witches – in Columbus’ beautiful Topiary Park, located at 480 East Town Street, downtown. (This is a very pet friendly family event that includes food trucks and Halloween themed activities for you and your pet.)
At each of these events, you be able to visit multiple booths, where you can talk with representatives from local rescues - like The Canine Collective, Columbus Dog Connection, Second Chance for Strays of Columbus, Colony Cats & Dogs, Fairytales and Tiny Tails Rescue, Second Chance Animal Rescue, Passion & Purpose for Ohio’s Voiceless, and For the Love of Jane. You’ll meet professionals from the Veterinary Emergency Group, GHI Blood Bank and The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center – who can answer questions you might have about pet health care. And, you can visit our many vendor booths to find helpful pet services, great gift items and playthings for your pets and fellow pet lovers.
