Meet Spirit, a 7 month old female Lab mix puppy who has recently been through a traumatic experience and is the latest recipient of assistance from the Ohio Pet Charities Coco’s Furry Friends Fund.
OPC was contacted by our veterinary partners at Central Ohio Veterinary Emergency (COVE) regarding a 15-pound puppy, who should have weighed 35 pounds, in need of urgent care at their clinic. The puppy had been rescued from a neglectful situation by the Delaware County Humane Society (DCHS) as part of a potential abuse investigation in their area. Dr. Jimmy Reynolds at COVE provided antibiotics, deworming treatments, fluids, and high-calorie gels to stabilize Spirit’s weight. Spirit spent several days at COVE receiving continuous small meals and special care from the staff to become strong enough to transition to a foster family with DCHS.
Spirit is now on the path to recovery. She is currently with her foster family, where she has discovered toys to play with, Nyla bones to chew, other dogs to start playing with, and a few cats to ignore. She no longer eats too quickly or scavenges for food. OPC is thrilled to have funded Spirit’s emergency care, allowing her to embark on the journey to find her new, happy, and healthy forever home.
